The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has appealed to the people of Himachal Pradesh and the country to participate in the INDIA Bloc’s mega rally scheduled to be held at Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi, on November 1, 2026, to protect the Constitution and democracy.
In a press statement, CPI(M) State Secretary Sanjay Chauhan alleged that the BJP-led Central Government was misusing the Election Commission of India, a constitutional and autonomous institution, to deprive crores of citizens of their constitutional right to vote. He claimed that more than 13.5 crore voters had been removed from electoral rolls under the leadership of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, allegedly at the direction of the Modi government.
Chauhan said the November 1 rally was part of a nationwide movement to safeguard the Constitution and democratic rights. He added that hundreds of CPI(M) workers from Himachal Pradesh would participate in the rally.
He further alleged that workers, farmers, students, youth, women’s organisations, civil society groups and intellectuals were protesting against what the party termed ‘vote theft’. He accused the Modi-Shah government of using police forces, paramilitary personnel and BJP-RSS workers to suppress the movement. He also alleged that protesters were being targeted through false legal cases and detention.
The CPI(M) State Secretary urged people to unite against what he described as attacks on democratic institutions and constitutional rights and to participate in large numbers in the INDIA Bloc rally.
Key Demands of CPI(M)
The party has raised the following demands:
1. Dismiss Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and initiate legal action against him.
2. Scrap the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and restore the voting rights of those whose names have been deleted from electoral rolls.
3. Protect the autonomy of the Election Commission of India and amend the law governing the appointment of Election Commissioners.
4. Undertake comprehensive electoral reforms across the country.
