Himachal Pradesh Home Guards Commander Ashok Rangra and his team displayed courage and promptness during the rescue operation following the under-construction bridge accident at Chilwahal-Lahad-Masiyana, playing a key role in saving the lives of five workers, said Rajiv Rana, a member of the State Backward Classes Commission holding the rank of secretary to the Himachal Pradesh government.

Rana said the Home Guards personnel risked their own safety while carrying out the rescue operation under difficult circumstances. Their efforts to evacuate the workers safely reflected their sense of duty, courage and commitment to public service, he said.

Rana, who reached the site soon after receiving information about the incident and took stock of the relief and rescue operations, praised Commander Ashok Rangra and his team for their response during the crisis. He said the courage displayed by the Home Guards personnel was an example of dedicated public service.

Rana urged Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to honour Rangra and the personnel involved in the rescue operation at the state level. He said recognition of their efforts would help boost the morale of personnel who respond to emergencies and encourage their commitment to public service.

Expressing grief over the death of one worker in the accident, Rana extended his condolences to the bereaved family. He said the prompt response of the rescue teams had helped save several lives despite the difficult circumstances.

Rana said the true meaning of public service was to stand with people in times of crisis, adding that the Home Guards had demonstrated this spirit through their courage, dedication and service.
