The three-day horse show held in Rampur Bushahr from November 1st to November 3rd, 2025, concluded successfully today. The show was organized in conjunction with the upcoming Lavi Mela-2025, which will be held with great pomp in the historic town of Rampur Bushahr from November 11th to November 14th.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Nand Lal, Chairman of the 7th Finance Commission of Himachal Pradesh and MLA from Rampur. His wife, Satya Nand Lal, was also present on the occasion.
In his address, Nand Lal said that the International Lavi Fair is a living symbol of Himachal Pradesh’s commercial, cultural, and animal husbandry traditions. He added that the horse exhibition is an integral part of the fair, encouraging the state’s livestock farmers to conserve, breed, and train elite breeds. Such events not only promote livestock development but also play a vital role in strengthening the rural economy. He added that such events are highly inspiring in attracting youth to traditional occupations and moving them towards self-reliance.
The horse exhibition was organised by the Animal Husbandry Department, Himachal Pradesh in collaboration with the International Lavi Mela Organising Committee, Rampur Bushahr.
The exhibition showcased horses of various breeds, with the Chamurthi breed being a particular highlight. Participants showcased their horses’ gait, strength, beauty, balance, and training skills, which was greatly appreciated by the audience.
An attractive exhibition of 282 horses was organised .
A total of 282 horses were displayed during the horse exhibition. These included 121 Spiti breed horses (stallions, mares, gildings, colts/fillies), 57 Spiti crossbreeds, 46 other non-descript breeds, and 29 mule pairs (58 mules in total). Approximately 150 animals were also sold during the exhibition, providing economic benefits to the livestock owners.
* Organizing balloon bursting competition and horse racing competition *
On the final day of the exhibition, a balloon bursting contest, a 400-meter and an 800-meter horse race were also held, with participants Dharam Pal and Happy taking first and second place, respectively, in both events. These competitions added to the excitement of the entire atmosphere.
Animal breeders, trainers and participants were honored.
At the closing ceremony, Nand Lal honored livestock farmers, trainers, and participants who excelled in various categories by presenting them with prizes and certificates. Congratulating the winners, he said that such efforts keep the traditional identity of rural Himachal alive.

The history of the Rampur Bushahr Horse Show is linked to the centuries-old tradition of the Lavi Fair. It is said that the Lavi Fair commemorates a historic trade treaty between the Rampur Bushahr state and Tibet. At that time, the exchange of horses, wool, salt, and other goods was a major part of trade. The horse show was started with the aim of preserving this trading tradition, and gradually evolved into a cultural and breeding-promoting event.
