After a dry spell of two months, the weather has finally changed in Himachal. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, snowfall has started falling in Rohtang Tunnel, Kullu Manali and Dharamshala of Kangra district including Lahaul Spiti of the state.
The first snowfall of the season has started in the world famous Atal Tunnel. Today on Saturday evening, snowfall has started in Kullu Manali including the high peaks of Lahaul Spiti, Koksar, Rohtang Pass, Kunzum Pass, Baralacha. Snow has also fallen on Dhauladhar hills of Kangra district.
It is being told that the high peaks of Lahaul Spiti including Rohtang Pass have turned white in some time. This is the first snowfall of the season on the high peaks of Kullu district, while Kinnaur district has also received light snowfall on September 12.
According to the Meteorological Department, there may be snowfall in the higher altitude areas of Kullu, Lahaul Spiti, Chamba and Kangra tonight. Clear weather is forecast across the state from tomorrow.
After a long time, rain and snowfall in the state has brought cheer to the faces of tourists and tourism businessmen. At the same time, the farmers of the valley are noticing the change in weather. Tourism businessmen along with gardeners are considering it as a sign of good snowfall in the coming time. Even before the rain and snowfall, the temperature in 4 cities of the state has gone into minus. The temperature will drop further at night.
Temperature reached minus in many places in Lahaul. The minimum temperature in Tabo Tabo has dropped to minus 8.7 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature of Samdo has fallen to minus 1.3 degrees, Kukumsairi to 4.1 degrees and Keylong to 2.0 degrees. Due to falling temperature, water has started freezing on the road. The water in the rivers and drains has also frozen.
Himachal Pradesh has recorded 98 percent less rainfall than normal in the last 53 days. There is drought like situation in many districts. During this period, there was no rain in Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kullu, Sirmaur and Solan districts. Whereas Kangra received 96 percent less rainfall than normal, Kinnair 99, Lahail-Spiti 99, Mandi 90, Shimla 99 and Una district received 65 percent less rainfall.
Meteorological Center Shimla has today issued a forecast of rain and snowfall in the high altitude areas of Chamba, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts. On the other hand, the minimum temperature has been recorded at minus at four places in the state. Light fog has been recorded in Bilaspur.
In other parts, the weather is forecast to remain clear for the next seven days. There will be no major change in minimum and maximum temperatures in many parts of the state during the next 3 days. After that, there will be a drop of about 2 degrees Celsius in some parts of the state for the next 2 days.
