Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service Officers’ Association has raised concern over the circulation of unverified reports and social media content regarding allegations against an officer posted in Solan, calling for restraint and adherence to due process.
In a press note issued on Tuesday, the association reiterated that accountability, transparency and the rule of law remain fundamental to public service. It stated that any credible allegations against a public servant must be examined impartially and strictly in accordance with legal procedures.
At the same time, the body flagged the “growing trend” of sharing unverified claims, selective documents and speculative narratives across social media platforms and sections of the media without proper authentication. Such actions, it said, risk causing mental distress to officers, damaging institutional morale and undermining the principles of natural justice.
Highlighting the legacy of the Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service, the association said generations of officers have served the state with integrity, often working in challenging terrains and under intense public scrutiny. It expressed pride in their contributions to governance, public welfare and administrative accountability.
The association appealed to media organisations, digital platforms and citizens to exercise caution while reporting or sharing information related to pending or unsubstantiated allegations. It also cautioned that officers performing sensitive regulatory duties are often targeted by vested interest groups attempting to influence public perception through selective or misleading information.
Stressing the need for a fair environment, the body said honest officials must be allowed to function independently within the framework of law, without being subjected to premature conclusions based on unverified material.
The association added that it has full confidence in competent authorities to handle the matter objectively and lawfully, with conclusions drawn only after due verification.
The statement, it said, was issued in the interest of maintaining institutional integrity, responsible public discourse and the sanctity of the legal process.
