Hamirpur, October 5, 2026: Former Union Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament Anurag Singh Thakur said that the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently stood with Himachal Pradesh in the interest of farmers and the development of the agriculture sector.
Anurag Singh Thakur expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for the release of the second installment of ₹64.82 crore to strengthen Himachal Pradesh’s agriculture sector and enhance farmers’ incomes. The released amount includes ₹28.31 crore under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and ₹36.51 crore under the Krishi Unnati Yojana.
He said the continued support from the Central Government reflects its commitment towards the holistic welfare of the farmers of Himachal Pradesh and strengthening the state’s agricultural economy.
Anurag Singh Thakur stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has allocated a total of ₹589.59 crore to Himachal Pradesh under the PM-RKVY scheme during the last 12 years. Of this, ₹456.07 crore has been released, while ₹378.24 crore has been utilized for agricultural development.
He further highlighted that ₹52.26 crore was released in 2024-25, ₹69.43 crore in 2025-26, and the entire allocated amount of ₹56.61 crore for 2026-27 has been released. He said these allocations underline the continued focus on strengthening agriculture and supporting farmers in the hill state.
Keeping in view the unique geographical and agricultural conditions of Himachal Pradesh, the Central Government has been consistently supporting initiatives related to crop diversification, modern irrigation facilities, agricultural infrastructure and improved market access. These measures are aimed at making agriculture more modern, sustainable and economically viable for farmers in the state.
Anurag Singh Thakur urged the state government to ensure the effective, transparent and time-bound utilization of the funds released by the Center so that the benefits of these schemes reach farmers at the grassroots level. He emphasized that this is particularly important as 88.85 per cent of farmers in Himachal Pradesh are small and marginal farmers.
He said that from the digitization of agricultural mandis and improving market linkages to strengthening agricultural research and expanding natural farming, the Central Government is extending support across various areas of agriculture. He reiterated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Center remains committed to working with the farmers of Himachal Pradesh and strengthening the state’s agricultural sector.
