Keeping in view the effects of global climate change, sustainable floriculture practices and landscaping in climate change scenario at Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni A 10-day national training programme on the subject was launched on 28 November 2017. The programme is sponsored by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and aims to train scientists, researchers and agricultural experts from across the country in sustainable techniques of eco-friendly floriculture and decoration.
The program was inaugurated by the university’s Director of Research, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Chauhan. In his address, he shed light on the challenges of climate change and said that traditional agricultural practices are no longer sufficient. And adopting sustainable , environment-sensitive technologies is the need of the hour. He urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained from this training in their field of work to benefit local farmers and society.
On this occasion, program coordinator Dr. Pooja Sharma shared detailed information about the training course. She informed that this program has been prepared for 15 scientific participants from different parts of the country, in which they will be given practical and theoretical training on techniques like climate friendly flower cultivation , landscape designing in horticulture , water management , organic nutrition , and green energy use.
During the training, lectures , presentations , field visits and demonstration sessions will be organized by subject experts. Its main objective is to ensure that the participants understand the impact of climate change and develop scientific solutions at the local level. Scientists , officers , teachers and students from various departments of the university also participated in the function. The program was conducted by Dr. S.S. Thakur , who welcomed the guests and participants and highlighted the usefulness of the program.
On the closing occasion, Executive Director Dr. B.S. Dilta thanked all the dignitaries , organizers , experts and participants. He said that such programs not only increase knowledge but also promote cooperation among scientists. This program will not only accelerate research and development in the field of floriculture but will also prove to be an important step towards a sustainable agricultural system.
