In celebration of the ongoing month-long Van Mahotsav campaign at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni several university departments conducted individual plantation drives, resulting in the planting of over 1100 plants on the university campus.
On Monday, the Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, along with the Departments of Basic Sciences and Social Sciences, organized a plantation event. The Department of Silviculture led the efforts, planting over 550 plants in various parts of the campus. In addition, the three departments collaborated to plant maple, oak, morus, grewia, jujube, citrus, moringa, tuna, and bamboo. The plantation drive was led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel. Dr. CL Thakur, Dean of the College of Forestry, Dr. Inder Dev, Director of Extension Education, and Heads of Departments Dr. DR Bhardwaj, Dr. RK Gupta, and Dr. Subhash Sharma, along with faculty and staff took part in the drive.
In a separate event, the Department of Tree Improvement and Genetic Resources, in collaboration with the Department of Soil Science and Water Management, also celebrated Van Mahotsav and Parthenium Eradication Day at the campus. During this event, 500 saplings of Punica granatum and 250 plants of Bauhinia variegata (Kachnar) were planted. Faculty, students, and staff from both departments came together for Parthenium Eradication, raising awareness about this harmful weed and working to protect the ecosystem from its adverse effects.
