Shimla, May 5: The State Election Commission Himachal Pradesh has announced the schedule for by-elections to vacant posts in Panchayati Raj Institutions across the state.
According to a notification issued from the commission’s office at Shimla, polling for the vacant posts will be held on June 6 and June 7, 2026. Voting will take place from 7 am to 3 pm at designated polling stations.
The election process began with the filing of nomination papers starting April 21, 2026, while the last date for submitting nominations was May 4, 2026. Scrutiny and other formalities were completed thereafter, and the final list of candidates was prepared on May 5.
Officials said that elections will be conducted for a total of 1,426 vacant posts in different Panchayati Raj institutions across several districts of the state. After withdrawals and scrutiny of nomination papers, elections will now be held for 1,394 posts.
The counting of votes will be conducted on June 17, 2026, after the completion of the polling process.
The commission has directed district administrations to make necessary arrangements to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Necessary guidelines regarding polling staff deployment, election materials and security arrangements have also been issued.
