Public Must Question Congress Leaders on Unfulfilled Guarantees: Jai Ram Thakur

Former Himachal CM Accuses Congress of Failing to Deliver on Its 10 Poll Promises; Says New District Announcement Is Another Election Promise

Una, October 31, 2026: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, urging people to question Congress leaders about the status of the ten guarantees promised during the Assembly elections.

Addressing a large workers’ conference organised to felicitate newly elected Panchayati Raj representatives in the Kutlehar and Chintpurni Assembly constituencies of Una district, Thakur alleged that the Congress had failed to fulfil its electoral promises even after nearly four years in power.

He called upon the public to demand accountability whenever Congress leaders visit their villages or constituencies.

“The people must ask Congress leaders what happened to the guarantees they made. They must seek a complete account of every promise,” Thakur said.

BJP Claims Strong Performance in Panchayat Elections

Congratulating the newly elected Panchayat representatives, Thakur said the BJP had fought a long legal battle, including approaching the Supreme Court, to ensure that Panchayat elections were conducted.

He alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was reluctant to hold the elections because the government feared public resentment over unfulfilled guarantees.

Thakur claimed that despite being in power across the state, Congress could not secure even 20 per cent of the elected representatives, while the BJP-backed candidates secured around 80 per cent. He further claimed that the BJP established Zila Parishad leadership in 11 out of 12 districts.

Development Has Suffered Under Congress Government, Alleges Thakur

Criticising the state government’s performance, the former Chief Minister alleged that Himachal Pradesh had fallen behind on the development front during the past four years.

He said the state had suffered extensive damage due to natural disasters, while the government’s response and policies had added to people’s difficulties.

Thakur alleged that several ongoing development projects had come to a standstill due to a shortage of funds and administrative inefficiencies. He also claimed that many institutions and schemes had been closed or were not functioning effectively.

He maintained that several major development projects in the state were being supported through initiatives and financial assistance from the Narendra Modi-led Central Government.

Questions Congress Over Corruption Allegations

Thakur also levelled allegations of corruption, nepotism and political favouritism against the Congress government.

He referred to allegations reportedly raised by a former Chief Parliamentary Secretary and comments concerning the movement of money between Shimla and Delhi, questioning the government’s functioning.

He also criticised the Chief Minister’s frequent visits to Delhi and the Congress party’s protests against the Election Commission.

Questioning the party’s allegations of vote theft, Thakur said Congress should first explain its own electoral promises to the people of Himachal Pradesh.

New District Announcement Another Election Promise, Says Thakur

Taking a dig at Chief Minister Sukhu’s reported proposal to create new districts, Thakur said the Congress government had not fulfilled its earlier election guarantees and was now making another promise ahead of the next Assembly elections.

“Even if you create districts in all 68 Assembly constituencies, it will not change the people’s assessment of the Congress government’s performance,” he said.

He added that people had become aware of what he described as unfulfilled promises made during the previous elections.

Highlights ₹1,000 Crore Development Works in Chintpurni

Recalling the BJP government’s tenure, Thakur claimed that development projects worth approximately ₹1,000 crore had been sanctioned and completed in the Chintpurni region during his tenure as Chief Minister.

He stressed that continued development in the region required active representation in the Assembly and urged party workers to strengthen their organisation at the grassroots level.

Calling for unity among BJP workers, he said shortcomings from the previous elections should be identified and addressed collectively.

Thakur expressed confidence in the party’s preparations for the next Assembly elections and encouraged workers to remain connected with the public.

Senior BJP Leaders Attend Conference

Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur was specially present at the conference.

Other prominent attendees included former minister Virender Kanwar, former MLA Devender Bhutto, District BJP President Shyam Manhas, former MLA Balbir Chaudhary, former MLA Chaitanya Sharma, Naveen Dhiman, former legislator Sushma Sharma, former Haroli candidate Ram Kumar and Zila Parishad Chairman Pawan Lambardar.

A large number of party office-bearers, elected Panchayati Raj representatives and BJP workers also attended the felicitation ceremony and workers’ conference.

The political allegations, election-related figures and claims regarding government performance in this report are attributed to Jai Ram Thakur and have not been independently verified.
