Folk culture should be made a part of tourism activities along with expanding the Homestay Scheme.

Secretary to Chief Minister, Language and Culture, Information and Public Relations, Energy, Education Rakesh Kanwar said that the rich folk art and culture of Chamba district, preserved for a thousand years, can play an important role in the tourism development of the district.
He said that the geographical diversity of the high Himalayan regions and lower regions of the district has the power to fulfill all the concepts related to rural, adventure, and ecological tourism.
Rakesh Kanwar said that tourism-related activities should be implemented in the district by taking lessons from other developed tourism areas of the state.
He was speaking today while participating as the chief guest in a program titled Virasat-e-Chamba organized at Bachat Bhawan on subjects related to education, tourism, and culture under the aegis of the prestigious Divya Himachal Publications Group and in collaboration with the Department of Language and Culture and Chamba District Administration.
Rakesh Kanwar also appreciated the efforts of the local people in preserving the traditional form of the rich folk art and culture of Chamba district.
Emphasizing the need to further expand the Homestay Scheme in the district, he asked to make local crafts and cuisines a part of tourism activities.
Rakesh Kanwar expressed happiness over the sex ratio of the district while reviewing various standard points under the Aspirational District Programme.
He also said that qualitative education is important in the capacity development of students. All necessary steps are being taken to ensure the infrastructural development of educational institutions in the district.
Earlier, Additional District Magistrate Amit Mehra gave detailed information on topics related to education, tourism, and culture under the journey of Aspirational District through a presentation (PowerPoint presentation). He also honored the chief guest by presenting the internationally renowned traditional handicraft artwork ‘Chamba Rumal’ of District Chamba and a shawl and cap. State in-charge Dainik Divya Himachal Rajesh Mandhotra, Assistant Commissioner PP Singh, Joint Director Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College Keshav Ram, Deputy Director Elementary Education Gyan Chand, Higher Education Bhag Singh, General Manager Industries Chandra Bhushan, District Language Officer Tukesh Sharma, and various departmental officers were present on this occasion.
