➤ Eight-year-old student’s eardrum ruptured, requiring surgery
➤ Teacher claims allegations are baseless, calls case a conspiracy
A disturbing case of assault has come to light involving an eight-year-old third-grade student at a government school in the Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district. The family alleges that the teacher beat the child so severely that his eardrum ruptured, requiring surgery. The child is currently undergoing treatment at Medical College, Chamba, and the family has filed a police complaint. The police have launched an investigation into the student’s treatment.
The family also alleges that the teacher assaults children and shows little interest in teaching, causing many children to fall behind in their studies. They have demanded strict action against the teacher from the Education Department. Chamba Deputy Director of Elementary Education, Balveer Singh, stated that the matter has been taken into account and a proper investigation will be conducted. Instructions have been issued to the Block Elementary Education Officer in this regard.
Meanwhile, the accused teacher has dismissed the allegations against him as baseless. He says it’s a conspiracy to frame him. He explained that the complaining mother and grandmother work as cook-cum-helpers at the school and hadn’t been attending for a long time. This was causing problems with the mid-day meal. They were asked for an explanation twice, but they didn’t respond. Now, the department has issued a second notice, demanding a response by October 29th. The teacher said he would inform the department about this matter.
