Wedding season is in full swing in the state. In such a situation, the Excise Department has issued a letter to the field officers regarding the strict implementation of the provisions made in the Excise Policy. If the permit fee is not collected, the department officials can take action as per the rules. Due to which, it has now become expensive to serve liquor in marriage ceremonies in the state.
The excise department has increased the permit fee for keeping liquor at the venue from Rs 600 to Rs 1200. Six boxes of whiskey and six boxes of beer can be kept at the venue by paying the permit fee. A fee of Rs 1700 will have to be paid to keep the unlimited quota.
A large quantity of liquor is illegally brought from Chandigarh during the wedding season in the state. Therefore, the department has issued a letter to the field officers asking them to be vigilant, and the Excise Taxation Department has also intensified surveillance in the border areas to catch liquor coming from outside areas. After paying the permit fee, people can pick up the supplies from liquor shops and serve them at the venue without any hassle, department officials said.
