Shimla, April 10: The Himachal Pradesh State Food Commission on Thursday held a key review meeting under the chairmanship of Dr. S. P. Katyal, focusing on strengthening food security mechanisms and improving grievance redressal systems across the state.
The meeting, held at the Commission’s conference hall, was attended by official members Smt. Chhavi Nanta (HPAS), Sh. Hitesh Azad (HPAS), Sh. Jeevan Singh (HPAS), and Member Secretary Sh. Yogesh Chauhan (HPAS).
Welcoming the newly inducted members, Katyal outlined the Commission’s statutory mandate under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013, stressing its role in ensuring transparent and efficient delivery of food security schemes to eligible beneficiaries.
Detailed discussions were held on enhancing coordination with line departments and district authorities, alongside improving monitoring systems and grievance redressal mechanisms. Members reiterated their commitment to ensuring effective implementation of food security programmes in Himachal Pradesh.
The Commission reviewed ongoing activities, with particular focus on the status of complaints received from beneficiaries. It emphasized timely disposal of grievances, regular follow-ups, and closer coordination with District Grievance Redressal Officers and implementing agencies.
Key concerns related to the functioning of the Public Distribution System (PDS) were also discussed. The Commission underlined the need to ensure availability and quality of food grains, strengthen field-level supervision, and promote regular inspections coupled with direct interaction with beneficiaries.
Issues related to periodic review meetings, awareness among stakeholders about provisions of the NFSA, and strengthening reporting mechanisms were also taken up during the meeting.
In his concluding remarks, Katyal appreciated the active participation of members and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to reinforcing food security systems in the state.
