Shimla: Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan on Thursday met Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Chief Engineer Rajiv Kumar and held detailed discussions on key road infrastructure projects and connectivity issues concerning Himachal Pradesh.
A major focus of the meeting was the paving of the Udaipur-Kilad road, a project that Mahajan described as a “lifeline” for the remote Pangi Valley. He said that once the road is fully paved, travel time between Udaipur and Kilad will be reduced to nearly two hours, bringing significant relief to residents and improving access to Kullu and other parts of the state.
Mahajan said enhanced road connectivity would provide a major boost to tourism, trade, agriculture and the local economy while integrating remote tribal regions more closely with the mainstream development process.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Chamba-Pangi road and plans for its upgradation. BRO Chief Engineer Rajiv Kumar assured the MP that all efforts were being made to expedite the completion of these strategically important projects and that construction activities would be accelerated on a priority basis.
During the discussion, BRO officials informed that the organisation’s annual budget for Himachal Pradesh stands at approximately ₹800 crore. Mahajan termed it a significant achievement for the state and said the allocation would strengthen road infrastructure in border and inaccessible regions.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government, Mahajan said continuous support from the Centre was helping strengthen Himachal Pradesh’s infrastructure and ensuring balanced regional development.
Commending BRO’s contribution to the state, he said an improved road network would not only ease the lives of people living in remote areas but also strengthen tourism, economic activities and national security. He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by the Central Government and BRO would further accelerate development in the far-flung regions of Himachal Pradesh.
