In Shimla district, a scam of crores has come to light in the name of water supply through tankers last summer. More than one crore was paid to contractors for supplying water through tankers.
Due to drought in the Theog subdivision from February to June last year, the work of supplying water through tankers was given on contract. It is alleged that in many places water was not supplied and payment was made. Complaints of water shortage were received in Bishdi village of Sandhu Panchayat of the subdivision. When water did not come, information was sought through RTI on suspicion. There was no supply here in June, but the information received through RTI stated that more than one lakh liters of water were supplied to the village.
When the complainant himself investigated, the matter came to light. It was found that the pickup whose number was given in the name of the tanker showed a supply of 819 kilometers in a day. On the second day also, 614 kilometers were supplied through the same. Singha says that money was taken on the number plates of bikes, luxury cars, and an officer’s official car. There is no road in Nagodhar and Karyali; how was supply given by tanker there? He has demanded a fair investigation by seizing the records related to the Chief Secretary. The SDM of Theog, Mukesh Sharma, said that the matter is being investigated.
