Shimla
A young man died by suicide in the Annadale area of Shimla, reportedly due to distress over failing his Class 12 (10+2) examinations, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred in the Thakur Bagh locality, where police received information through the 112 emergency helpline on May 4, 2026. A team rushed to the spot and found the youth, identified as Nikhilesh, hanging from a ceiling fan inside a flat. He was declared dead at the scene.
During the preliminary investigation, the deceased’s father, Prem Lal Sharma, informed the police that his son had been under mental stress after failing his board exams.
Police conducted a detailed inspection of the body and found no external injury marks. The scene was documented through photography and videography, and statements of witnesses were recorded.
The body has been sent to the mortuary at IGMC Shimla for postmortem examination. Family members have not expressed any suspicion regarding the incident.
Further action will be taken after the postmortem report is received, police added.
