Shimla: At least one person was killed and several others injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus plunged into a gorge near Ghotola in Kholighat under Rampur Bushahr subdivision of Shimla district on Wednesday evening.
The accident occurred at around 7 pm when the bus, operating on the Rampur–Kholighat route, reportedly veered off the road and fell nearly 50–60 feet into the gorge.
According to preliminary information, around 20 to 22 passengers were travelling in the bus at the time of the accident. One passenger died in the mishap, while several others sustained injuries.
Soon after receiving information, teams from the district administration, police and emergency rescue services rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured were evacuated from the gorge and shifted for medical treatment.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Police have initiated an investigation, while rescue and relief operations were continuing at the time of filing this report.
