Students nation’s biggest asset: Sanjay Awasthi

Students are the biggest asset of society and the nation, and it is the collective responsibility of parents, teachers and society to provide them with the right guidance and opportunities, Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi said on Friday.
Awasthi was speaking at a Meritorious Students’ Felicitation Ceremony organised at DCM School, Bakhalag, in the Arki Assembly constituency. As many as 520 meritorious students from 70 government and private schools were honoured for their outstanding performance in academics and sports. The students were presented prizes and certificates.
Emphasising the importance of education beyond classroom learning, Awasthi said students should be encouraged to participate in sports, arts, science, technology and other creative activities. “Education is changing rapidly, and students need exposure to modern technology and new avenues of learning along with traditional education,” he said.
He urged students to set clear goals and work towards them with dedication, discipline and a positive attitude. Their success, he said, should bring pride to their parents, teachers, schools and the region.
The MLA said the state government, under Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, was working to strengthen the education system and improve facilities in government educational institutions. The focus, he added, was on providing students with modern infrastructure and improving the overall quality of education.
Awasthi also stressed that academic achievement alone was not enough to succeed in life. Good values, positive thinking, discipline and a sense of responsibility towards society were equally important. He urged students to stay away from drug abuse and other social evils and adopt a healthy and constructive lifestyle.
Praising the organisers, he said such programmes help boost students’ confidence and motivate others to perform better. Himachal Pradesh has no shortage of talented youngsters, he said, adding that providing them with quality education and adequate opportunities was the key to taking the state forward.
During the event, Awasthi announced Rs 31,000 for the organising committee.
The MLA also heard grievances and demands raised by local residents and directed officials of the concerned departments to take necessary action and resolve the issues on priority.
