Plantation and training camp held in Mandi’s Babela cluster
Mandi, August 20: The Babela cluster in Drang development block is set to witness the sweet fragrance and flavour of litchi in the years ahead after 2,010 saplings were planted under the HP-SHIVA Project.
The plantation and training camp was organised by the Horticulture Department to encourage farmers to adopt modern techniques and scientific horticulture practices. Deputy Director of Horticulture, Mandi, Dr Sanjay Gupta, was present on the occasion.
During the camp, horticulture experts trained farmers in scientific litchi cultivation. The departmental team conducted practical demonstrations in the fields, explaining the correct plantation method, pit-filling techniques and initial care required for young plants.
2,010 Saplings Planted on 3.5 Hectares
The litchi plantation drive was launched by senior citizens of the village and beneficiaries of the cluster. A total of 2,010 improved litchi saplings were planted across 3.5 hectares of land.
Horticulture Development Officer Dr Kavita Sharma said that seven clusters have so far been established in the Drang development block under the HP-SHIVA Project, covering a total area of 95 hectares.
Guava and Japanese fruit, or persimmon, have been the main crops promoted under the project. In the remote Barot Valley, five clusters covering 76 hectares have been established with a focus on promoting persimmon cultivation.
Cluster In-charge Pooja Lohia, District Coordinator Abhay Chauhan, Field Supervisor Gaurav Thakur, Facilitator Abhishek and other block officials were also present.
