Chandigarh: Sixty students of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh, undertook an educational visit to the Punjab and Haryana High Court under the guidance of UN Awardee Social Worker and PGGC-11 alumnus Advocate Tanuj Goyal, as part of experiential and institutional learning under the National Education Policy (NEP)2020.
The visit aimed to provide students with first-hand exposure to the functioning of the judiciary, court proceedings and the justice delivery system. Advocate Tanuj Goyal, along with Advocate Varun Garg, Advocate Ashish Kaushik, Advocate Yogesh Bansal, Advocate Darpan Bansal, Advocate Rinki Gupta and Assistant Advocate General, Punjab, Roshan Deep Singh, Amritsar, guided the students during the visit and apprised them of various aspects of the functioning of the High Court.
The students observed live court proceedings in different courtrooms. During one of the proceedings, Hon’ble Justice Deepak Sibbal interacted with the students. As matters relating to GST and Income Tax were listed before the Court, the Hon’ble Judge particularly interacted with the B.Com. students, explaining the practical relevance of taxation and commercial matters in judicial proceedings. The interaction proved to be an insightful and inspiring experience for the students.
The students also witnessed proceedings of the Lok Adalat at the Punjab and Haryana High Court and interacted with Hon’ble retired Judges, gaining valuable insights into the judicial process and the role of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The visit concluded with an educational tour of the Mediation Centre, where the students were introduced to the process of mediation and the importance of amicable settlement of disputes.
Throughout the visit, students were sensitised to the role of the judiciary, constitutional values, rule of law, judicial procedure and the administration of justice. The exposure enabled them to connect their classroom learning with the practical functioning of one of the country’s important judicial institutions.
At the conclusion of the programme, Parampreet Singh Bajwa (Harry), General Secretary, Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, and Dr. Kirandeep Kaur, Joint Secretary, extended their best wishes to the students and appreciated the educational initiative. Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Tanuj Goyal said that students should not be confined to classroom learning alone and that exposure to important constitutional and judicial institutions provides them with a deeper understanding of democracy, governance and the rule of law. He emphasised that such educational visits help inculcate constitutional values, respect for democratic institutions, awareness of the justice system and a sense of responsible citizenship among young students.
