Mandi, May 13: The commissioning process of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines for the upcoming Mandi Municipal Corporation councillor elections was completed on Wednesday at Government Vallabh College ahead of polling scheduled for May 17.
Officials prepared a total of 69 EVM and VVPAT machines for wards 1 to 13 during the exercise conducted under the supervision of election authorities.
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Apoorva Devgan carried out a surprise inspection of the arrangements and directed polling personnel to ensure the commissioning process was completed with utmost vigilance, transparency and responsibility.
Assistant Returning Officer and SDM Sadar Rupinder Kaur said the entire process was carried out in accordance with Election Commission guidelines. She said the EVMs and VVPAT machines were configured with candidates’ names, election symbols and ballot units before being sealed and securely stored in a strong room under CCTV surveillance.
She added that three master trainers, 15 engineers and several employees played an important role in completing the process smoothly.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Gursimar Singh along with other officers and staff members were also present during the commissioning exercise.
