Shimla, November 2. Thousands of people visited Dev Junga and received his blessings on the occasion of Dev Utthan, locally known as Devthan, at the 22nd Tika (God) place, Thund. A Jagran (Ghaina) for Dev Junga was held last night at Devthan in Thund. During this, Kariyala was organized for the entertainment of the people. In which famous folk singer Pankaj Thakur and other artists performed a Pahari Naati and kept the people dancing the whole night. The satire and humorous attacks on each other in the role of a Sadhu made the people roll with laughter. A Bhandara was also organized on this occasion in which thousands of devotees took the Prasad.
Giving information about the Devutthaan festival, Dev Junga’s priest Nandlal Sharma said that Thund has been considered the site of the 22 Tikas of the Junga deity since the princely era, where devotees from various regions come every year on the occasion of Devshayani and Devutthaan to seek the blessings of Dev Junga. Dev Junga is revered throughout the Keonthal region, and on Devthan, all the deities attend the 22 Tikas of Thund.
He explained that on the occasion of Devthan and Dasuni, 22 deities from across the region, including Devchand, Kunthali of Panjal, Manuni of Dhar, and Junga of Bhanog, gather where people offer gifts to the deities after their wishes are fulfilled. On Devthan, devotees are given rice grains as prasad, which people store in their homes.
Manohar Singh Thakur, the guardian of Junga Deity, explained that the history of Junga Deity is linked to the royal family of the Keonthal State. He added that Junga Deity’s reverence is found throughout the then Keonthal State.
On this occasion, many office bearers of the committee including Dev Junga Committee’s President Prem Thakur, Secretary Pritam Thakur, Deepak Rohal, Suresh Thakur Balog, Rajiv Thakur, Pradeep Bragta, Suresh Verma, Devendra Numberdar, Krishna Rohal, Chetram Sharma were present.
A flood of faith gathered at the Thund temple on Devthan.
