The Deputy Commissioner urged the residents of the district to provide correct and complete information.
Deputy Commissioner Shimla Anupam Kashyap has appealed to all citizens of Shimla district for their active cooperation and participation in making the second phase of Census 2027, i.e., Population Enumeration, a success. The second phase began across the district on Tuesday.
He said that after the successful completion of the first phase of Census-2027, the second phase is now being conducted in Shimla district from September 1 to September 30, 2026. Shimla district has been notified as a snow bound area for the purpose of census, due to which the work for population census will be done here within the stipulated period.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the census is an important basis for assessing the country’s social, economic, and demographic situation. The data obtained from this census is used to formulate future government plans, better distribute resources, prioritize development projects, and effectively implement various public welfare policies. Therefore, providing accurate information from each family is crucial.
Trained enumerators will go door to door
He stated that as part of preparations for the second phase of the census, necessary training has been provided in a phased manner to district-level, subdivision-level, and charge-level officials, as well as field trainers, supervisors, and enumerators. 1,697 enumerators and 286 supervisors have been appointed for this task.
From September 1, enumerators will reach every house in the district and collect necessary information related to the family and its members through 40 questions prescribed by the Census Department.
The Deputy Commissioner urged citizens to provide accurate, clear, complete, and factual information to enumerators, and to refrain from concealing any information or providing information based on guesswork. Ensure that information about all eligible family members is provided according to the prescribed procedures.
Self-calculation also received encouraging response
Anupam Kashyap stated that citizens were given the opportunity to enter their census information themselves through the Self-Enumeration Portal provided by the Census Department. The portal was live from August 17th to August 31st and received an encouraging response from district residents.
Expressing gratitude to all the citizens who participated in the self-enumeration, he said that the participation of citizens in the census process is an important link to its success.
Citizens should pay special attention to these things
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the residents of the district to keep the following things in mind while providing information –
– When the enumerator reaches your home, provide the necessary information cooperatively.
– Provide correct and complete information regarding all family members.
– Answer questions regarding name, age, education, occupation, marital status, other family related details etc. factually.
– Do not be hasty while giving information and if you have any doubt regarding any question then clarify its purpose with the enumerator.
– Do not answer any information based on guesswork.
– Provide correct information to the enumerator regarding those family members who are not available at home at the time of enumeration.
– Answer the questions asked by the enumerator personally or through a knowledgeable family member based on correct facts.
– Citizens should not give their census related information to any unauthorized person and can ensure the identity of the enumerator if required.
– In case of any confusion, problem or complaint related to census, contact the concerned Charge Officer/Administrative Officers.
Cooperation in Census – Contribution to the development of the district
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the census is not merely a data collection process, but a national endeavor that lays the foundation for future development plans. In a geographically and climatically challenging district like Shimla, the cooperation of both the administration and every citizen is essential for the success of this endeavor. He stated that the administration has made all necessary preparations to ensure a smooth, systematic, and transparent census process. He urged all departmental officials, trained enumerators, supervisors, and training teams to complete the task within the stipulated timeframe with utmost seriousness and responsibility.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all the citizens of Shimla district to extend their full cooperation to the enumerators visiting door to door from September 1 to September 30 and play their important role in making Census-2027 a success by providing correct and accurate information.
