Shimla, June 23
A wedding band party’s journey turned tragic in Himachal Pradesh’s Theog subdivision after a truck carrying 24 people skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge, leaving one person dead and 23 others injured.
The accident occurred in Shimla district when the truck, bearing registration number CH-01-TB-4485, lost control and rolled down the hillside. According to officials, all those on board were members of a band troupe travelling from Chandigarh to attend a wedding function.
The deceased has been identified as Neetu, son of Pappu, a resident of Salanpur village in Muzaffarpur district, Uttar Pradesh.
Following the accident, rescue teams and local residents rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Civil Hospital, Theog. Due to the severity of their injuries, several victims were later referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, while two critically injured persons were taken directly to the tertiary care hospital.
Officials said a horse being transported in the truck for the wedding procession survived the accident unharmed.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the crash. Authorities are monitoring the condition of the injured, many of whom sustained multiple injuries in the fall.
