Shimla: A car belonging to an employee posted at the Himachal Pradesh Police Headquarters was allegedly set on fire by unidentified miscreants in Bharari, raising concerns over law and order in the area. Following the incident, Ward No. 1 councillor Meena Chauhan has urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation, identify the culprits at the earliest and intensify patrolling in the locality.
According to the councillor, the incident occurred on the night of July 13 near the Chapslee School turn, close to the Police Lines in Bharari. The vehicle, owned by Police Headquarters employee Inder Singh, was parked at the site when it was allegedly set ablaze. The fire completely destroyed the car before it could be brought under control.
Chauhan said the incident has triggered concern among local residents over the area’s security. She alleged that the movement of outsiders in Bharari has increased significantly in recent months, with some people reportedly consuming drugs inside parked vehicles, creating late-night disturbances and engaging in unruly behaviour.
The councillor claimed she had repeatedly raised the issue with senior police officials and the local police post through written and verbal complaints. She further alleged that video evidence related to several theft incidents in the ward had also been submitted to the police, but inadequate action had emboldened anti-social elements.
Demanding immediate action, Chauhan called for a fair investigation into the arson case, speedy identification of those responsible and increased police patrolling across Bharari. She also urged the police to maintain strict surveillance on suspicious activities to prevent similar incidents and restore public confidence in the security system.
