75 establishments were inspected, 6 challans were issued and a fine of Rs 8,000 was collected.
Kullu, October 7 :
A massive campaign has been launched by the Sub Divisional Officer (Civil), Kullu with the aim of ensuring effective cleanliness, sanitation and proper maintenance of public places, markets, roads and commercial areas of all 11 wards falling under the jurisdiction of Municipal Council Kullu and to stop the activities of throwing garbage in the open.
As part of the campaign, Kullu city’s 11 wards have been divided into four major groups and special ward-wise committees have been formed under the chairmanship of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil). These committees include officials from the police, excise and taxation, HRTC, transport, industry, health, forest, tourism, pollution control board, and municipal council as members and member secretaries.
The formed committees are conducting regular and surprise inspections and patrols of markets, roads, and sensitive areas in their assigned areas. As part of this campaign, a special inspection campaign was conducted on October 6, 2026, in Ward Nos. 1, 2, and a partial area of Ward No. 3.
During the inspection, the team inspected a total of 75 commercial and other establishments. Six of these violations were found in six cases, resulting in on-the-spot challans, and a total fine of ₹8,000. Banned single-use plastic spoons, polythene carry bags, and other prohibited items were also confiscated during the inspection.
According to the administration, the Himachal Pradesh Non-Biodegradable Waste (Control) Act provides for fines ranging from ₹500 to ₹25,000, depending on the amount of banned single-use plastic. Additionally, institutions and shops are subject to a ₹5,000 fine for plastic waste, and ₹1,000 for individual waste.
The administration has appealed to all citizens, shopkeepers, businesses, and tourists to cooperate with the administration in making Kullu city clean and plastic-free. Avoid littering in public places and avoid using banned plastic.
