Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri attended the closing session of the two-day National Departmental Water Security Summit organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti at New Delhi, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The summit discussed various issues related to water security, water conservation, drinking water supply, effective management of water resources and the use of modern technology in the water sector.
During the summit Mukesh Agnihotri said that water conservation is one of the country’s key priorities today. He said that for a hilly state like Himachal Pradesh, it is essential to protect natural water sources, strengthen drinking water schemes and ensure scientific and sustainable management of water resources.
He stressed the need to involve local communities in water conservation and turn it into a people’s movement. He said that better coordination between the Centre and the states, along with sharing successful experiences and best practices among states, can help address challenges in the water sector more effectively.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that in view of climate change and changing weather patterns, long-term planning and the effective use of modern technology are essential for the conservation and sustainable management of water resources.
He said that Himachal Pradesh government is committed to water conservation and to ensuring better and more sustainable management of its water resources.
