Himachal Pradesh needs technology that can help predict natural disasters such as snowfall and landslides and reduce their impact. Governor Kavinder Gupta said this today while addressing the 8th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Una. A total of 206 students were awarded degrees at the convocation, including 189 B.Tech and 17 M.Tech students.
The Governor expressed confidence that the young engineers graduating from IIIT Una would make meaningful contributions to Himachal Pradesh and the country through their knowledge, innovation and commitment to public welfare.
Kavinder Gupta called upon young technologists to develop practical solutions for the state’s key challenges, particularly in disaster management, agriculture, water conservation and rural entrepreneurship.
He said the real value of technical education lies in applying knowledge and innovation to solve problems faced by society. He urged students to use emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), semiconductors, robotics and quantum computing to develop solutions that can benefit society.
Sh. Gupta said that a degree is not the destination, it is the foundation of your journey. He encouraged the youth to keep learning as technology evolves and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat-2047 through innovation, skills and responsible citizenship.
The Governor also stressed the importance of integrity, character, environmental protection, national unity and social responsibility alongside technical skills.
Lok Sabha MP Anurag Singh Thakur said young people have a crucial role in building a developed India. He encouraged students to pursue innovation, entrepreneurship and new ideas, while staying away from drugs, taking part in sports and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Rajya Sabha MP Prof. Sikander Kumar highlighted the need for young engineers to become job creators and use technology to address Himachal Pradesh’s challenges, including snowfall and landslides. He also called for technology to reach people in remote and rural areas.
Director IIIT Una Prof. Manish Gaur presented the institute’s progress report and highlighted the achievements in academics, placements, research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
