Sameerpur/Hamirpur, September 27, 2026: Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal felicitated Government Polytechnic College Hamirpur students Sarvesh Sharma and Piyush Sharma at his residence in Sameerpur after the Rudra Edge project received a Rs 3.5-crore Ministry of Defence grant.
Sarvesh Sharma, a fifth-semester Computer Science student, had developed an initial drone prototype at a cost of around Rs 87,000. The project has subsequently received Ministry of Defence support for further development of the Rudra Edge T-1 (Spectra) drone. Reports say the project is aimed at applications including Army border surveillance and is being developed with support through an IIT Roorkee incubation facility.
Dhumal congratulated the students and said their work reflected the potential of young people in indigenous technology and innovation. He said efforts to develop advanced technologies for national security and technological self-reliance could encourage more students to pursue research and innovation.
He also expressed confidence that the talent and hard work of Sarvesh Sharma, Piyush Sharma and their colleagues would contribute to further technological achievements.
Dhumal congratulates Indian kabaddi teams
Dhumal also congratulated the Indian women’s and men’s kabaddi teams for winning gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
The Indian women’s team defeated Iran 37-34 in the final, while the men’s team beat Iran 40-34 to retain their respective Asian Games titles. Both teams completed unbeaten campaigns.
Dhumal congratulated the players, coaches and support staff and attributed the achievement to their skill, discipline, dedication and sustained efforts.
He particularly highlighted the participation of four players from Himachal Pradesh in the Indian women’s kabaddi team, saying their performances had brought recognition to the state.
He conveyed his best wishes to the Indian kabaddi teams and expressed hope that the players would continue to achieve success in future international competitions.
