Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Shimla Anupam Kashyap has issued a draft notification of the proposed traffic management plan to solve the traffic problems arising due to increasing traffic pressure, limited parking facilities and unplanned roadside parking and loading-unloading in Theog town.
According to the draft notification, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Civil) Theog has prepared a traffic management plan after a joint inspection and detailed study with the Municipal Council Theog and the Police Department. Keeping in mind the safety of the general public and the smooth flow of traffic, various parking spaces, taxi parking, loading-unloading points, bus stops, no parking zones, no U-turn zones and other traffic-related arrangements have been proposed under sections 115 and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Under the proposed plan, parking spaces for light and pickup vehicles have been identified at various locations, including Janog Ghat, Prem Ghat Chowk, Snowline Filling Station, Forest Department Office, Electricity Office, Rahighat Bypass, and Theog Bypass (NH-05). Separate parking for taxis has been proposed at the New Bus Stand, Theog. Meanwhile, loading and unloading near Hotel Hidimba will only be allowed before 8 a.m. and after 8 p.m.
According to the plan, Janong Ghat, Prem Ghat, Sabji Mandi, Civil Hospital Road, Snowline Filling Station and various parts of Rahighat area have been proposed as no parking zones and the route from Janong Ghat to Rahighat has been proposed as no U-turn zone.
Separate bus stops have been proposed for Chopal-Kotkhai, Shimla, and Rampur routes. Additionally, Rahighat Chowk, Zero Point, Old Bus Stand, and Premghat Chowk have been designated for school buses.
Keeping in mind the safety of students in schools, it has been proposed to implement one-way traffic system on the Premghat to Civil Hospital Theog road from 9:00 am to 9:45 am and from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Additionally, entry into Theog market will be restricted for heavy vehicles from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. All such heavy vehicles will be required to use the Theog bypass route. However, Transport Corporation buses and vehicles coming to the vegetable market will be exempted from this arrangement.
The District Magistrate stated that this draft notification has been issued for the information of the general public. Anyone with any objections or suggestions to this proposal may submit their written suggestions and objections to the District Magistrate’s Office, Shimla, within 30 days from the date of publication of the notification.
