The School of Biotechnology at Shoolini University organised one-day expert talk on “Research Funding and its Impact on Publications.” The session was led by Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, Director of the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati.
The session began with a talk delivered by Chancellor Shoolini University, Prof. P K Khosla. He emphasised the importance of research in academia and how securing funding can significantly enhance the scope and impact of research endeavors. He also highlighted Shoolini University’s dedication to promoting research excellence and encouraged faculty members and students to actively seek funding opportunities to support their scientific pursuits.
Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, a pioneering venom biochemistry and biotechnology researcher, provided a detailed overview of the research funding landscape in India and globally. He explained the critical role of securing research grants and funding in enhancing the quality and scope of scientific research, and how these efforts translate into impactful publications.
Prof. Mukherjee underscored the significance of publications in disseminating research findings to the global scientific community. He pointed out that high-quality publications not only increase the visibility of researchers but also enhance the institution’s reputation, which in turn attracts more funding and collaborative opportunities.
The talk was followed by a lively interaction session, where faculty members, postgraduate students, and research scholars engaged with Prof. Mukherjee on various aspects of research funding, publication ethics, and the importance of international collaborations in boosting publication impact. His insights into securing funding from prestigious organisations, such as the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and the benefits of mentoring young researchers, were particularly valuable to the audience.
The session concluded with closing remarks by Prof Azhar Khan, Professor, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology, who expressed gratitude to Prof. Mukherjee for sharing his knowledge and expertise.
