Farmers are disappointed as French beans prices fall

French beans were sold at Rs 49 per kg in Solan and Rs 40 to 60 per kg in Dhali.
Shimla, May 24. Farmers are disappointed due to the fall in the price of French beans. It should be noted that consignments of French beans from the Junga region are reaching the state’s largest vegetable markets, Solan and Dhali, daily. In the initial phase, the maximum price of French beans was Rs 120 per kilogram. Due to increased arrival of French beans from various areas of the state, on Sunday, French beans were sold for Rs 49 in Solan and Rs 40 to 60 per kilogram in Dhali vegetable market. However, last week the maximum rate of French beans was Rs 90. It should be noted that due to good rains during the months of April and May, there has been a bumper crop of French beans this year.
Progressive farmers of Junga area including Durga Singh Thakur, Vijay Sharma, Chanchal Verma, Jabar Singh Thakur and many other farmers said that if the rate of French beans remains stable at Rs. 50, then the farmers will benefit a lot. They said that there are two varieties of French beans, in which the first type has a tassel which is sold at a low price, whereas the second variety Butia i.e. Phalguni variety of French beans which is grown without tassel, gets good prices in the market. According to Chanchal Verma, the French bean crop gets ready in the shortest time i.e. 60 days, in which the farmers do not have to work hard.
It should be noted that on the lines of Solan, in Junga area, cash crops like French beans, tomatoes, garlic, capsicum etc. are produced in huge quantities due to which revolutionary changes are being seen in the economy of the farmers.
According to trader Vinod Sharma, the price has declined slightly due to the large influx of French beans from other regions of the state. He says that the price of French beans depends on their quality. Despite this, farmers are still receiving good prices on average for French beans.
