A meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap regarding the ongoing construction work of the four-lane in Shimla.
The deputy commissioner said that a special committee will investigate the incident of the collapse of a five-storey building in Bhattakufar. He has given instructions to form a committee under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate Law and Order Pankaj Sharma. The committee will give a detailed report on the reasons for the collapse of the house, the damage, and the assistance provided to the affected. Along with this, if the adjacent houses are also in danger due to the cutting of the four-lane construction work, then the committee will also give a detailed report about this.
Four lane work will be marked from Kaithlighat to Dhali
The Deputy Commissioner said that the second committee has been formed to prepare the status report of the four-lane construction work going on from Kaithlighat (from where the border of Shimla district begins) to Dhali. This committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate Protocol Jyoti Rana, which will have 12 members. This committee includes Public Works Department, NHAI, Police, a construction company, and other stakeholders. This committee will identify the work being done by the company. If the rules set by the company are not being followed, further action will be taken. The four-lane work of about 27 km from Kaithlighat (from where the border of Shimla district begins) to Dhali comes under Shimla district. The committee will also give information in the report about the sensitive places created by the construction work.

In this meeting, the Deputy Commissioner decided that the NHAI will give a detailed report within two days, in which the consultant will give the details about the dangers posed by the construction work of the four-lane from Kaithlighat to Dhali Tunnel. Along with this, the report will also have to give information about what steps were taken by the company at such places after the consultant’s report. The Deputy Commissioner said that the company constructing the four-lane will also give its report on the compliance of rules regarding the work. Apart from this, a report will have to be given about the land acquisition done for the four-lane.

Anupam Kashyap said that due to the construction of the four-lane road, people’s houses are in danger, regarding which many people have complained to the administration. Drone surveys are being done through the police and such places are being identified where there is a possibility of danger due to cutting. The company and NHAI have been instructed to inspect the dumping site so that there is no adverse effect on the land adjacent to these sites due to the monsoon.
About 20 families have been affected by the construction work of the four-lane, who demand that the company should provide financial assistance as well as rent to the affected building owners. Apart from this, appropriate steps should also be taken to secure the partially affected houses. The deputy commissioner has instructed the NHAI officials to take positive steps on the demands of the affected. Apart from this, he instructed the Public Works Department to get the partially damaged buildings evaluated so that they can be compensated after assessing the damage.
