Governor Kavinder Gupta released the Dogri–Punjabi Dictionary authored by Late Chandan Negi at a function organised jointly by the Punjabi Lekhak Sabha and the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages at KL Sehgal Hall, Jammu today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor described literature as a powerful force that can guide society and inspire positive social change. He said literary works reflect deep thought, patience and human sensitivity.
Highlighting India’s rich linguistic heritage, Shri Gupta said languages are not only tools of communication but also carriers of culture, history and traditions. He praised Punjabi literature for promoting the values of love, brotherhood, courage and humanity.
The Governor appreciated the efforts of the organizers in preserving literature and culture and emphasized the importance of connecting younger generations with their linguistic and cultural roots. He said safeguarding India’s heritage and rich traditions is essential for strengthening the nations cultural identity and building a more united and organized society.
Referring to the growing influence of technology, the Governor said that books continue to hold great importance even in the digital age. He said books help develop knowledge, sensitivity, critical thinking and moral values and encouraged young people to engage more actively with literature and culture.
Kavinder Gupta said that literature is a true reflection of society and plays an important role in bringing positive change. He also congratulated the family of Late Chandan Negi and extended his best wishes to the organizers.
Padma Shri awardee and President of Dogri Sanstha Jammu Prof. Lalit Magotra, Sahitya Akademi Awardee Khalid Hussain, President Punjabi Lekhak Sabha Jammu Dr. Baljit Singh Raina, noted Punjabi novelist Surinder Neer, Dr. Upinder Singh Ghai, Arvinder Ghai and Manvi Chatwa and other prominent persons were present on the occasion.
