Shimla, April 16:
In a significant action against misconduct in educational institutions, the Himachal Pradesh Government has dismissed three assistant professors from service in separate cases involving allegations of sexual harassment and abuse of authority.
According to official orders issued by the Department of Higher Education on April 16, 2026, the action follows detailed departmental inquiries and recommendations from the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.
Chemistry Professor Dismissed in Hamirpur Case
In one case, an assistant professor of Chemistry posted at Sidharth Government College, Nadaun (Hamirpur district), was dismissed after being found guilty of sexually harassing a B.Sc. first-year student during a practical class in November 2024.
The inquiry report confirmed that the accused repeatedly engaged in inappropriate physical contact despite the student’s resistance. The charges were established based on consistent testimony and evidence.
Dance Professor Removed for Misconduct and Assault Attempt
In another case, an assistant professor of Dance (Kathak), earlier posted at Jawahar Lal Nehru Government College of Fine Arts, Shimla, was dismissed following serious allegations of sexual harassment and attempted molestation of a student.
The inquiry found that the professor misused his position by calling students to his residence under the pretext of practice sessions and attempted to assault a student. Additional charges of misconduct, including influencing the complainant and irregularities in academic evaluation, were also examined.
Mathematics Professor Dismissed in Shimla Incident
In a third case, a Mathematics assistant professor from a government college in Chamba district was dismissed for sexually harassing a second-year B.Sc. student in 2021.
The investigation revealed that the accused contacted the student through messages, called her to meet, and attempted to establish physical contact against her will. The findings established grave misconduct and violation of service rules.
The government observed that such acts are “grave, serious, and wholly unbecoming of a government servant,” especially in the teaching profession, which demands high moral standards and trust.
It emphasized that teachers hold positions of responsibility and any misconduct not only harms students but also undermines the integrity of the education system.
All three officials have been dismissed from service with immediate effect. The orders also state that the dismissal will ordinarily disqualify them from future government employment, as per applicable rules.
