Shimla, September 3: All MLAs in Himachal Pradesh will soon get a special “distinctive flag” for their vehicles, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said on Thursday. The flags will be issued by the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Secretariat within a week and will be displayed on the vehicles of all legislators.
Pathania said the decision to provide distinctive flags had been taken during the 13th Assembly but could not be implemented at the time. The arrangement has now been put into effect. He said the purpose of the flag is to give MLAs a separate official identity, particularly helping newly elected legislators. The flags will also make it easier to identify their vehicles when they travel outside Himachal Pradesh.
The Speaker said the flags would be similar in purpose to the distinctive flags used on the vehicles of the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary. The demand for such flags had been raised by MLAs from time to time, particularly after the removal of beacon lights from legislators’ vehicles.
