Shimla, April 27:
Amid the lush green forests of Himachal Pradesh, a small golden fruit quietly thrives, offering a burst of nutrition and traditional value. Commonly known as Hisalu or wild Himalayan raspberry, these yellow-orange berries are not just a seasonal delight but also have powerful health benefits.
Found growing naturally in hilly terrains, these berries have been part of local diets for generations. Villagers, especially children, often pluck and eat them fresh during forest walks, enjoying their mildly sweet and tangy flavor.
Experts say these wild berries are rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants, and dietary fiber. Their antioxidant properties help combat free radicals, while the high vitamin content supports immunity making them especially beneficial during seasonal changes.

Traditional Healing Value
In rural Himachal, Hisalu has long been associated with digestive benefits. Locals believe it helps in improving gut health and relieving minor stomach issues. Some also use it in homemade remedies for boosting energy and reducing fatigue.
From Forest to Kitchen
Beyond being eaten raw, these berries are used in preparing chutneys, jams, and local drinks. Their natural sweetness and vibrant color make them a favorite ingredient in traditional recipes.
A Reminder of Nature’s Richness
With increasing focus on packaged and processed foods, such wild fruits serve as a reminder of the nutritional wealth found in nature. However, experts advise proper identification before consumption, as not all wild berries are safe.
