Shimla
Traditionally, International Lavi Fair at Rampur Bushahr, District Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, is being organized every year since the 17th century after a trade treaty between the then Bushahr King and Tibet Rulers.
This fair witnessed not only exchange of goods but trading livestock also. The Lavi term originated from ‘LOWI’, which means to cut the wool. Trade of wool and woolen apparels were integral part of this fair.
The Chamurthi breed of Horses, which have its origin in the Tibetan plateau, are called ‘The Ship of Cold Desert’. Every year before Lavi Fair, Department of Animal Husbandry Himachal Pradesh along with District Administration Shimla organize Horse Mandi/Horse Show at Rampur Bushahr to facilitate and promote the trade of these horses. Buyers are mainly from Uttarkashi District of Uttarakhand along with locals.
