Shimla, August 18
The Himachal Pradesh government has ordered the release of arrears of pension and family pension to employees who retired between January 1, 2016 and January 31, 2022.
According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Finance (Pension) Department on August 18, the release will be made in phases, with the percentage of arrears varying according to the employee’s class and pension amount.
Under the order, Class-III pensioners will receive 35 per cent of the arrears, while Class-II and Class-I pensioners will receive 15 per cent each. For Class-III employees, the provision applies to pension up to ₹40,000 and family pension up to ₹24,000. For Class-II employees, the limits are pension up to ₹50,000 and family pension up to ₹30,000.
For Class-I employees, the order covers pension ranging from ₹60,000 to ₹1,09,300, including the maximum pension, while family pension ranging from ₹40,000 to ₹65,580 is covered.
Following this release, the cumulative arrears paid so far will stand at 55 per cent for Class-III and 35 per cent for Class-I and Class-II pensioners, according to the memorandum.
The government has also directed that interim relief and dearness relief instalments already paid on basic pension and family pension will be adjusted against the gross arrears. Pensioners will receive only the net amount after such adjustments.
Pension Disbursing Authorities, including banks, have been instructed to adjust any recoverable excess pension or family pension from the balance arrears before releasing the remaining amount.
The order further states that the arrears covered under the latest release are to be drawn and disbursed to pensioners and family pensioners during August 2026.
The memorandum was issued by the Himachal Pradesh Finance Department with the approval of the competent authority and circulated to administrative departments, treasuries, pension authorities and public sector banks for necessary action.
