If no action is taken, revenue officials will go on pen down strike on October 13 and 14 – Narayan Verma
Shimla, October 10. The Himachal Pradesh Revenue Officers Association has taken a tough stand on the issue of misbehavior with Tehsildar Hari Singh Yadav during the International Kullu Dussehra Fair and the failure to arrest the Hariyans who manhandled him. They have issued an ultimatum to the state government that if the accused involved in the manhandling are not arrested within two days, all revenue officers in the state will go on a pen-down strike on October 13 and 14. If the government still does not take immediate action on this issue, then all revenue officers will go on mass leave from October 15.
Narayan Singh Verma, president of the Himachal Pradesh Revenue Officers Association and tehsildar of Junga, said in a statement that the association’s officials met with Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta on Friday and submitted a memorandum regarding this serious matter. He stated that even after the Dussehra fair concluded, the police have not yet arrested the Haryana residents who misbehaved and scuffled, which is unfortunate. He added that the association had previously met with the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and demanded immediate action on this issue, but to date, no action has been taken.
Union President Narayan Verma said that the Chief Secretary has assured the union that this serious issue will be thoroughly investigated and action will be taken as per law against the persons found involved in this matter during the investigation.
He stated that such an incident involving an on-duty Executive Magistrate is unfortunate, and has lowered the morale of revenue officers in the state. The manner in which the Tehsildar was manhandled despite an apology raises questions about the safety of all revenue officers. He urged the government to provide security to revenue officers while on official duty.
