Shimla, July 16
Two people, including an HRTC conductor, lost their lives after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus met with an accident near Gartola on the Rampur–Khadahan–Kotadhar–Kholighat road in Shimla district on Wednesday evening.
The bus, carrying around 24 passengers, reportedly went out of control around 6:30 pm. HRTC conductor Jay Prakash Negi, a resident of Ghadoli village in Nankhari, died at the accident site, while 72-year-old Daku Ram, a resident of Shahdu village in Nankhari, was declared brought dead at Mahatma Gandhi Medical Complex, Khaneri.
Officials said 22 injured passengers are undergoing treatment at Khaneri Hospital. Doctors are providing medical care, while the condition of the injured is being closely monitored.
Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap expressed grief over the loss of lives and said the district administration has initiated relief measures. Immediate financial assistance has been released to the eligible bereaved family, while aid to the other victim’s family will be provided as per norms. Rescue and relief operations were carried out promptly, with the administration continuing to assist the injured and affected families.
