Hamirpur, November 4. The Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Hamirpur held an anti-ragging committee meeting on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Hamirpur Additional District Magistrate (ADC) and the institute’s acting principal, Abhishek Garg. Other committee members, including Tehsildar Subhash Kumar, Neelkant Bhardwaj, Pankaj Bhartiya, institute officials, student representatives, and parents, were also present.
On this occasion, the ADC urged all committee members to keep a close watch on any suspicious activity in the institute or its surrounding areas and to report any ragging incidents immediately. The meeting saw a comprehensive discussion on various aspects of ragging and the necessary measures taken to prevent it.
The ADC stated that no case of ragging has been reported at the institution since its inception. Despite this, caution is required at all times. He added that ragging is a malpractice that has a devastating mental and physical impact on the victim, and has even resulted in the death of several students. In light of this, very stringent provisions have been enacted in the anti-ragging law. Students found guilty of ragging can be arrested without a warrant and face up to three years in prison and a fine.
Informing the committee members about the institute’s anti-ragging measures, Department Head Puneet Bunta stated that the institute celebrated Anti-Ragging Day on August 12th, where students were informed about the ill effects of ragging and were sworn in to abstain from ragging. Additionally, several awareness activities were organized during Anti-Ragging Week, which was observed from August 12th to 18th. Other members also made important suggestions at the meeting.
