From Atal ji to Yoga Day—Congress’s indifference towards great men and national events exposed: Karan Nanda
Shimla.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly objected to the state government’s failure to organize any formal program to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar, the founder and first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. BJP leader and media coordinator Karan Nanda sharply criticized the Congress government on this issue, saying it was extremely unfortunate that the Congress government had forgotten the great man who had given Himachal its identity.
Karan Nanda said that Dr. Parmar died on May 2, 1981, and his statue was installed on the Ridge in Shimla in 1984. Since then, government-sponsored events have been held annually on his birth and death anniversaries, where the Chief Minister, ministers, leaders of various parties, and officials attend to pay tribute. However, the Congress government’s lack of any event this year demonstrates its disrespect for him.
He said that Dr. Parmar fought a long struggle to establish a distinct identity for Himachal Pradesh. After independence, when the future of the hilly regions was uncertain, under his leadership, Himachal was established as a separate administrative unit. It was through his efforts that Himachal first received the status of a Union Territory and later, on January 25, 1971, achieved full statehood. This achievement was the result of his vision and strong leadership.
Karan Nanda, accusing the Congress party, said that this isn’t the first time the Congress government has ignored great personalities. Previously, events related to Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were also overlooked. Furthermore, the state government also showed a lack of concern for important national events like International Yoga Day, where even its ministers and leaders failed to participate.
He said that this attitude of the Congress government shows that it is not sensitive to issues of history, great men, and national interest. The BJP will take all such issues to the public and hold the Congress government accountable.
Finally, Karan Nanda said that the Bharatiya Janata Party has paid tribute to Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar on his death anniversary and has resolved to carry forward his ideals and is committed to follow the path shown by him for the development of the state.
