Chamba: Protests intensified on Sunday as local MLA Dr. Janak Raj led a road blockade at Rakh Le Pass against the deteriorating condition of National Highway 154-A. Supporters joined the demonstration, raising slogans against the state government and questioning its functioning.
Dr. Janak Raj alleged that the poor condition of NH-154A has been causing persistent inconvenience to commuters, travelers, and local residents. He pointed out that with the famous Manimahesh Yatra scheduled to begin in the next four months, the damaged road significantly increases the risk of accidents, yet the government has failed to take action.
He further claimed that while the central government has released adequate funds for maintenance and improvement of the highway, the state government has failed to utilize them properly. “This is a direct injustice to the public,” he said.
The MLA stated that despite repeated warnings and raising the issue multiple times, no concrete steps have been taken, forcing him and the public to take to the streets in protest.
Dr. Janak Raj warned that if repair work does not begin before May 15, he will stage an indefinite sit-in by pitching tents on the road. He urged the administration to immediately initiate repair work on NH-154A to provide relief to the public.
