Kangra, April 19: In a shocking incident, a taxi driver was allegedly attacked and left for dead in a forest area of Kangra district. Swift action by the police not only saved the driver’s life but also led to the arrest of two accused.
According to police, a complaint was lodged at Majheen police station on April 19 by Pratap Singh, a resident of Padehla village under Tehri post office. He reported that his elder brother, Mehar Singh, a taxi driver by profession, had left home with his vehicle on April 17 but did not return for two days.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a missing person case and launched an investigation. During the probe, it emerged that around 1:30 pm on April 17, two युवक had hired the taxi for Gagret. The accused were identified as Amit Kaushal (23) and Suresh Kumar (19), both residents of the Tehri area.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a dispute broke out between the accused and the driver near Kaloha. The duo allegedly diverted the vehicle towards a secluded route, where they attacked the driver with a knife and attempted to strangle him using a rope. Believing him to be dead, they dumped him in a forest and fled the spot.
Using technical and physical evidence, police traced and arrested both accused. On their disclosure, the injured driver was recovered from the forest on April 19 in a critical condition.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda for advanced treatment.
Police have sealed the crime scene and initiated a forensic investigation. A case has been registered against the accused, and further investigation is underway. Officials said strict legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
