MLC Results Have Debunked Opposition’s Narrative; Congress Loses Even in Ballot-Paper Elections: Anurag Singh Thakur

Congress’s Vote-Stealing Narrative Has Lost Its Credibility: Anurag Singh Thakur

Hamirpur, October 29, 2026:

Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur welcomed the NDA’s victory in the elections to 28 Legislative Council (MLC) seats across four states, stating that the results of these ballot-paper elections had dealt a decisive blow to the Congress-led Opposition’s vote-rigging narrative. He said the outcome reflected the Congress party’s declining public trust and shrinking political support.

Anurag Singh Thakur said the Congress had increasingly resorted to the politics of fear, confusion, falsehood and disorder. By repeatedly questioning constitutional institutions, public offices and established electoral processes, the party was attempting to deflect attention from its successive electoral defeats. He said making allegations against EVMs, the Election Commission and Election Commissioners had become a recurring feature of Congress politics, undermining respect for the people’s mandate.

He said the NDA’s victory and the Congress’s defeat in the elections to 28 MLC seats across four states had exposed the weaknesses in the Opposition’s allegations. The Congress’s poor performance in ballot-paper elections, he added, had further raised questions about the credibility of its vote-theft claims. According to him, the results reaffirmed public confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the BJP.

Referring to the recently concluded Panchayati Raj and urban local body elections in Himachal Pradesh, Anurag Singh Thakur said voters had rejected the Congress and delivered a mandate in favor of the BJP. He said the results reflected public dissatisfaction with the policies and functioning of the Congress government in the state and indicated a desire for change. These elections, too, were conducted using ballot papers, yet the Congress failed to secure the public support it had sought.

He said the Congress must understand that the medium of voting—whether EVMs or ballot papers—does not alter the people’s mandate. Respecting electoral outcomes, he stressed, is fundamental to democracy. Repeatedly raising unsubstantiated allegations of vote theft despite successive electoral setbacks only reflects political frustration. Instead of relying on such claims, he said, the Congress should focus on rebuilding public trust and addressing the concerns of citizens.
