Shimla, June 4: The Himachal Pradesh unit of the Media Wellbeing Association (MWB) will organize a special launch and distribution ceremony of free accidental insurance policies worth ₹10 lakh each for journalists of Himachal Pradesh on June 9, 2026, at Hotel Holiday Home near the High Court in Shimla.
The initiative is being organized under the leadership of MWB North India President Chandra Shekhar Dharani and on the initiative of MWB Himachal Pradesh In-charge Sanjay Bhutani.
Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh will attend the event as the Chief Guest, while Chief Minister’s Principal Media Advisor Naresh Chauhan will preside over the function.
Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan will be the Guest of Honour, and Shimla Urban MLA Harish Janartha will attend as a Special Guest.
According to MWB officials, the organization has been working for the welfare and social security of journalists and their families for the past five years. The association claims to be the first organization in the country to provide cashless health insurance facilities to journalists and is now extending free accidental insurance coverage worth ₹10 lakh to media professionals.
MWB Himachal Pradesh President Vishal Sood has been appointed as the convener of the event. Senior office-bearers, including General Secretary Dr. Surendra Mehta, Treasurer Tarun Kapoor, Vice President Pawan Chopra, and Organization Secretary Mewa Singh Rana, are expected to participate.
The association stated that journalism has become an increasingly challenging and risk-prone profession, often requiring reporters and camera persons to work in difficult terrains, disaster-hit areas and sensitive situations. The insurance initiative aims to provide an added layer of financial security to journalists and their families.
