New Delhi, September 27: Bank customers will not face a strike tomorrow after the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) decided to defer its proposed agitation and strike following a meeting with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) on Sunday night.
According to a circular issued by the UFBU, the two sides discussed several pending issues during the meeting and reached an understanding on key matters.
On the demand to declare the remaining Saturdays as holidays for bank employees, the IBA and UFBU agreed to constitute a high-level committee immediately. The committee will examine all possible options and work towards a solution keeping all stakeholders, particularly customers, in mind.
The meeting also discussed the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for officers in Scale-IV and above. It was agreed that discussions would be initiated with the IBA to address the concerns raised by unions and associations. If required, a proposal to amend the scheme will be taken up with the government.
The two sides also agreed to continue discussions for an early resolution of other pending issues listed in the minutes of the meeting held between the IBA and UFBU on March 8, 2024.
In view of the understanding reached during Sunday’s meeting, the UFBU has decided to defer its proposed programme of agitation and strike action.
The unions said a detailed circular outlining the developments would be issued separately.
