The hardships of the common people in Shimla city are set to increase, as private buses will not operate in the city from November 3rd. The private bus driver-conductor union in Shimla City has made the decision to go on strike indefinitely. The administration’s and HRTC’s failure to keep their prior commitments has prompted this conclusion. This walkout may cause serious difficulty to thousands of employees, students, and daily commuters.
“This strike is being called out of compulsion,” said General Secretary Sunil Chauhan and President Roshan Lal of the Shimla City Private Bus Operators Union. They recounted that following a meeting on October 12th that was presided over by the Additional Commissioner of Transport, a similar strike was scheduled for October 13th but was postponed. The gathering also included union officials and the RTO Shimla.
The union claims that it was voted unanimously that buses traveling more than 40 kilometers would not stop at the old bus stand but would instead proceed straight to ISBT. Regular passengers will not be picked up by HRTC school buses. Passengers will not be picked up in the middle by HRTC buses that are heading for diesel replenishing or charging.
According to the union, HRTC promised to put these measures into effect within a week during the meeting. However, the situation is still the same and the regulations are still being broken twenty days later. The Driver-Conductor Union has chosen to embark on an indefinite strike starting on November 3 because they are furious with the administration’s attitude. A notice letter has also been sent to the Private Mini Bus Operator Union and the Transport Director of Himachal Pradesh informing them of this.
